about varun

Varun Rana is a New York City-based comedian, writer, musician, and social media creator who turned 'I can't believe his boss let him post that' (note: his boss did not let him post that) into a career.

Originally from Detroit, Varun quit his software engineering job at Amazon in 2021 to start posting sketches on TikTok. He then spent a few years collecting material creating shareholder value in go-to-market roles at various startups, before his employer forced him to chase his content creation dreams full-time in 2024.

With more than 170,000 followers across platforms, Varun’s audience spans tech workers, first-gen kids, and anyone who has ever sat in a meeting that made them question their entire existence. His comedy highlights the psychological absurdity of modern work from the point of view of a first-gen Indian-American.

Varun relies on dry, self-aware humor to subtly poke fun at how much we've all agreed to care about our careers, whether we’re grinding at a startup our parents don't understand or working toward a medical degree they picked for us. His audience doesn’t just laugh at his work. They share it at team standup, laugh good-naturedly as if Varun hasn’t bared straight into their souls, then make sure their PM isn’t looking while they commiserate about how cathartic it is to see someone putting words to the absurdity of the grind.

Varun has partnered with Ramp, Gamma, Notion, Replit, Samuel Adams, Dollar Shave Club, and others. Brands keep coming back because he has a point of view, and he holds onto it—even when there's an (overly prescriptive) brief involved.
